Want to Get Into NFT Gaming? Check Out These 3 Games on IMX

Play-and-earn chess, epic trading card game and a MOBA: choose your fighter!

Want to Get Into NFT Gaming? Check Out These 3 Games on IMX

Earlier this year, we integrated Immutable X on Rarible—a layer 2 solution for Ethereum purpose-built for blockchain gaming (think cheaper, faster transactions).

We were blown away by how much you all loved Immutable X. So, a few weeks and a few millions in volume later, we want to share 3 of the most popular IMX games traded on Rarible.com.

Gods Unchained

Free-to-play trading card game where players compete in epic card duels

Launched in 2018, Gods Unchained is one of the oldest and most popular titles available on the IMX chain.

If you’re a fan of Magic: The Gathering, chances are you’ll love Gods Unchained—it’s also a trading card game, but it’s powered by NFTs (a great fit for blockchain!). Its team also has some top-notch gaming talent from giants such as EA Games, Riot Games, Wargaming, Wizards of the Coast and more.

“Helmed by Chris Clay, the former Game Director of Magic: The Gathering Arena, Gods Unchained provides a dynamic and competitive experience with a strong focus on strategy,” the Gods Unchained team told Rarible Blog. “We focus on fun and compelling gameplay as much as empowering players with ownership and utility.”

Indeed, nearly 70% of its users spoke about the gameplay being fun as the primary reason why they play Gods Unchained, the gaming company told Rarible Blog citing its latest insights survey.

Building a play-and-earn experience as opposed to a basic grindy game is another important direction for Gods Unchained, they added, diving deeper into the tokenomics behind the game:

Our token, $GODS, is key to designing a sustainable ‘play and earn’ economy.

Similar to existing in-game currencies, $GODS was designed as the core in-game currency for Gods Unchained and to enrich our ‘play and earn’ loop.

This means, $GODS are rewarded to users through play, allowing us to incentivize those who actively engage and support our game and community - be it players, third party developers, content creators or the community itself.

Sparkadia's Edenbrawl

Blockchain’s current #1 MOBA

Have you ever been addicted to played League of Legends or DOTA? If you (just like me) is guilty of that, you might love Sparkadia’s Edenbrawl!

Sparkadia is a gaming ecosystem featuring multiple games of different genres (MOBA, shooter, action-RPG, hero collector, and card battler) and NFTs that are compatible with each title.

"I look forward to using my champions and skins across the games in the Sparkadia universe!," community member domoshi said when asked by Rarible Blog about what makes them excited about Sparkadia.

As Sparkadia are building out their ecosystem, Edenbrawl promises to be the blockchain’s first successful MOBA. “I've been following the journey from Worldspark Studios for three years now (pre-seed funding) and have always been excited and intrigued on how this Mobrawler would turn out," gurzybro, another Sparkadia community member, told us.

Immortal Game

Chess meets NFTs

No matter where you are in the world, you’ll find someone to play this game with. Immortal Game combines chess and NFTs.

Now, you might be wondering why a 2000+ year old game needs NFTs. It might sound odd at first, but it’s a fun way to introduce novelty without reinventing the wheel.

"Adding NFTs with quests incentivizes players to find new and bold strategies to maximize their rewards," Joseph Toaff, Content lead at IGE, shared with Rarible Blog. "Collecting a set of chess pieces with synergizing quests, or with quests that work well with a particular opening or endgame strategy, is another layer of entertainment IGE wants to offer its players."

Basically, Immortal Game lets you score cool NFTs and show off fancy chess pieces while improving your game and learning new strategies.

Another thing that’s important for Immortal Game — and blockchain gaming at large — is ownership. NFTs can give you true ownership over your in-game items and make them composable—while centralized players can simply shut down servers and make you unable to use the skins you paid good money for.

"We could have done this the Web2 way, where players buy in-game items with in-game currency purchased via credit card, but such a system would not give players full ownership of their purchase or the ability to trade with other players," Toaff said, adding:

Moreover, Immortal Game is meant to be free-to-play and play-and-earn, so we would have had to find a way to convert the in-game currency into fiat currency to reward players, with all the problems such a choice would imply.

Notably, as with Gods Unchained and Sparkadia, fun is also a big priority for the team behind Immortal Game:

NFT or not, it all boils down to how much value - and in games, value means fun - you can offer your audience.
